House of 1000 Beers and 4 tacos.

House of 1000 Beers and 4 tacos.

In the beginning of January, I met my friend Steve at House of 1000 Beers for beers and tacos (a dynamic duo). This was my first visit to a House of 1000 Beers. They have two locations, one in New Kensington and the other in Warrendale. I made sure to clarify which one we were going to meet at since I am known for showing up at the wrong bar or location quite often. For instance, La Palapa in Southside…

Denver Part 2: Mountain Biking and Tacos.

Denver Part 2: Mountain Biking and Tacos.

After spending Thanksgiving up in the mountains in Dillon, Colorado with Carolyn, Tyler, and their friends, we made our way back to Wheat Ridge. Wheat Ridge is a town about 15 minutes east of Denver, where Carolyn and Tyler reside. I needed the entire next day to recover from the change in altitude from Dillon to Denver. Dillon is about 9 times above Pittsburgh’s elevation. Once I was back to normal, I was all gung-ho for trying a new sport,…

Spicy Tacos and a Heated Cornhole Competition at Social

Spicy Tacos and a Heated Cornhole Competition at Social

At the end of October, Jason invited me to watch his playoff game in the PSL Cornhole League hosted at Social.  Social is located in Bakery Square at 6425 Penn Ave, which is an area that I do not venture to that often.   A minor side note, but I played one season of PSL Cornhole a long time ago, back when Double Wide Grill held the league in Southside.  Once I realized how competitive it really was, I sort of…

Giant Effing Tacos at Cafe Nikos

Giant Effing Tacos at Cafe Nikos

On a surprisingly warm Taco Tuesday night in the Burgh, I made my way to Cafe Nikos dressed in a Pens t-shirt and a little black sweater.  I had Nikos on my PGH taco list for quite sometime after having read their 2 tacos for $3 weekly special listed on the banner outside the bar months ago.  I recruited a fellow Mount Washington resident and friend, Jason, for a taco filled night at Nikos located at 212 Shiloh St up…

Pacific Northwest Battle #1: Uno Mas or Por Qué No?

Pacific Northwest Battle #1: Uno Mas or Por Qué No?

At the end of August, I took an extensive trip to the Pacific Northwest.  The 11 day vacation included a long weekend in Napa Valley for a friend’s bachelorette party with my college crew followed directly with a trip to Portland and Seattle with my grade school buddies.  Since I knew I would not have many opportunities for tacos in Napa, I saved all my taco explorations for Portland and Seattle with my grade school friends.  How lucky were they?!…

Voodoo tacos cast a spell on me.

Voodoo tacos cast a spell on me.

A few weeks ago, I had the unusual treat of a free Thursday afternoon so I took advantage of this by biking with my friend, Sean.  Typically, my Thursday nights are reserved for my Ultimate Frisbee league, but this week the league was on a temporary on hold between seasons.  With only one Thursday evening to spare before summer Frisbee commenced, Sean and I decided to make our way to Voodoo Brewery by bicycle. I introduced Sean to a wonderful…

Expanding my fancy taco horizons at Carmella’s Plates and Pints

Expanding my fancy taco horizons at Carmella’s Plates and Pints

Last Tuesday after another 12.5 hour OR shift, I once again changed out of my scrubs quickly and made my way to my old stomping grounds in Southside.   Tuesday night can typically be a very good night for tacos thanks to alliteration (taco Tuesday!), so I was excited to hit up a place that I’ve been meaning to check out for awhile.  I had Carmella’s Plates and Pints in mind located at 1908 East Carson Street. I met my friend…

Biking, Incline, Tacos, Hills, Tacos – My Taco Tuesday in Pittsburgh

Biking, Incline, Tacos, Hills, Tacos – My Taco Tuesday in Pittsburgh

Inclined To Get Tacos During Pittsburgh’s Heat Wave Last Tuesday towards the end of Pittsburgh’s heat wave, I ventured out on my bicycle during the 89 degree day. Since my car was unavailable that morning, I figured it would be prime time (minus the heat) to finally take my bike on the incline. Since I am still new to the roads on Mount Washington, I figure the safest way to get to the Cultural District would be to take the…

Speakeasy Tacos in Pittsburgh’s North Side

Speakeasy Tacos in Pittsburgh’s North Side

Taco Tuesday in Pittsburgh replaces Wing Night in Dormont A few weeks ago when the standard crew could not make it to Jamison’s wing night, I took the opportunity to visit another spot that has a taco Tuesday special. I first discovered James Street Gastropub & Speakeasy had tacos when I went there for drinks prior to attending the Incline’s Ultimate Food Truck Bracket Contest to support and try Las Chicas tacos (which I have been craving lately). Listed on…

Pints, Pens, Pints on Penn, All You Can Eat Tacos in Pittsburgh!

Pints, Pens, Pints on Penn, All You Can Eat Tacos in Pittsburgh!

Last Tuesday night right before the Penguins versus Senators game during game 6 the Eastern Conference Finals, a group of us decided we should fuel up on tacos to get us ready for the big game. Now I usually go with the group to Jamison’s on West Liberty in Dormont for FREE wings with beer every Tuesday, but once in awhile we will switch it up for tacos. It is unfortunate this wing special falls on #TacoTuesdays, but I make up…
