Best Lookin’ Tacos go to Strange Roots Experimental Ales

Best Lookin’ Tacos go to Strange Roots Experimental Ales

I recently took a trip to Millvale, one of my favorite Pittsburgh neighborhoods, for Taco Tuesday. With a new goal to downsize my apartment and save money on rent, Millvale and my current location of Mount Washington were the top picks on my list. Millvale is booming with breweries and restaurants, and a Baby Loves Tacos will be appearing there soon. And with the bike trail nearby, Millvale is my ultimate hobby oasis. During the TacoMania events, I tried some…

Scootin’ to tacos in Charlotte.

Scootin’ to tacos in Charlotte.

November was one of the best months of the year for me. I started the month off with a celebration of my Halloween birthday surrounded by many of my Pittsburgh friends, followed by a trip to California, Tahoe, Deep Creek, and Charlotte. The month of November was mainly focused on regaining strength and range of motion from many surgeries I had this past year, so while visiting my college friends, I maintained my strict exercise regimen. On my trek, I…

T and T Cantina stands for…..

T and T Cantina stands for…..

Tacos and Tequila! All the stars lined up on the day after Labor Day. It was a Tuesday. The weather was ever so pleasant. It was Happy Hour. I wanted tacos nearby. I had hungry company. On that magical eve, my Mount Washington neighbor, Ben, joined me for tacos at T and T Cantina, located on the side patio adjacent to Coughlin’s Law. As you may recall from my post about one year ago, I was not a huge fan…

Boston Trip Part 1: Wicked good tacos at Lone Star Taco Bar.

Boston Trip Part 1: Wicked good tacos at Lone Star Taco Bar.

Due to medical reasons, I have not been able to travel for vacation or for Frisbee tournaments this year. However, with a small break in medical care, I was able to take a mini weekday trip to Boston in August. It was really nice leaving Pittsburgh for a hot second to explore another city and, of course, to eat their tacos. As always, I had a packed itinerary. Before Steve and I made it to Lone Star Taco Bar, we…

House of 1000 Beers and 4 tacos.

House of 1000 Beers and 4 tacos.

In the beginning of January, I met my friend Steve at House of 1000 Beers for beers and tacos (a dynamic duo). This was my first visit to a House of 1000 Beers. They have two locations, one in New Kensington and the other in Warrendale. I made sure to clarify which one we were going to meet at since I am known for showing up at the wrong bar or location quite often. For instance, La Palapa in Southside…

Denver Part 2: Mountain Biking and Tacos.

Denver Part 2: Mountain Biking and Tacos.

After spending Thanksgiving up in the mountains in Dillon, Colorado with Carolyn, Tyler, and their friends, we made our way back to Wheat Ridge. Wheat Ridge is a town about 15 minutes east of Denver, where Carolyn and Tyler reside. I needed the entire next day to recover from the change in altitude from Dillon to Denver. Dillon is about 9 times above Pittsburgh’s elevation. Once I was back to normal, I was all gung-ho for trying a new sport,…

Spicy Tacos and a Heated Cornhole Competition at Social

Spicy Tacos and a Heated Cornhole Competition at Social

At the end of October, Jason invited me to watch his playoff game in the PSL Cornhole League hosted at Social.  Social is located in Bakery Square at 6425 Penn Ave, which is an area that I do not venture to that often.   A minor side note, but I played one season of PSL Cornhole a long time ago, back when Double Wide Grill held the league in Southside.  Once I realized how competitive it really was, I sort of…

Giant Effing Tacos at Cafe Nikos

Giant Effing Tacos at Cafe Nikos

On a surprisingly warm Taco Tuesday night in the Burgh, I made my way to Cafe Nikos dressed in a Pens t-shirt and a little black sweater.  I had Nikos on my PGH taco list for quite sometime after having read their 2 tacos for $3 weekly special listed on the banner outside the bar months ago.  I recruited a fellow Mount Washington resident and friend, Jason, for a taco filled night at Nikos located at 212 Shiloh St up…

Pacific Northwest Battle #1: Uno Mas or Por Qué No?

Pacific Northwest Battle #1: Uno Mas or Por Qué No?

At the end of August, I took an extensive trip to the Pacific Northwest.  The 11 day vacation included a long weekend in Napa Valley for a friend’s bachelorette party with my college crew followed directly with a trip to Portland and Seattle with my grade school buddies.  Since I knew I would not have many opportunities for tacos in Napa, I saved all my taco explorations for Portland and Seattle with my grade school friends.  How lucky were they?!…

Voodoo tacos cast a spell on me.

Voodoo tacos cast a spell on me.

A few weeks ago, I had the unusual treat of a free Thursday afternoon so I took advantage of this by biking with my friend, Sean.  Typically, my Thursday nights are reserved for my Ultimate Frisbee league, but this week the league was on a temporary on hold between seasons.  With only one Thursday evening to spare before summer Frisbee commenced, Sean and I decided to make our way to Voodoo Brewery by bicycle. I introduced Sean to a wonderful…
