Tacos and Arches make a great duo!

Tacos and Arches make a great duo!

Kevin and I kicked off our first vacation of the year together in Utah. The 13 day adventure included hiking, camping, exploring riverbeds, UTV riding, stargazing, and seeing national parks. On the first day, we flew into Salt Lake City and drove four hours south to Moab. It was exciting that the first two nights were completely unplanned and we were banking on first-come, first-served BLM camping. Night one was a success after finding a sweet camp spot by Bowtie…

Tacos, beer, and all the outdoorsy stuff in Oregon.

Tacos, beer, and all the outdoorsy stuff in Oregon.

The last tacos I had in Oregon were back in 2018. Click here to see the Portland, Oregon taco post. Just like my 2018 visit, I started my trip in California and worked my way up to Oregon. My Pittsburgh friend, Kevin, was working in Klamath Falls, OR. He met Alexis and I for kayaking on Shasta Lake, dining in Redding, and hiking the beautiful waterfalls of Shasta-Trinity National Forest. After a wonderful week and a half with Alexis, we…

You had tacos from a food truck at work the other day…

In the voice of Wayne from Letterkenny…”You had tacos from a food truck at work the other day…and you just happened to be working a daylight shift.” That was my scenario a few Fridays ago when the Cool Beans Taco truck rolled up outside of the hospital. My work recently restarted Food Truck Fridays once Pittsburgh started to open back up. I was really excited that the Cool Beans Taco truck was coming on a day that I was scheduled…

A quick U-Turn for tacos at La Catrina on Wheels.

A quick U-Turn for tacos at La Catrina on Wheels.

After a long shift at work, I made my way home in sight of making pizza for dinner. As I was driving down Western Avenue in the Northside, I saw a food truck stationed up outside of 412 Brewery. Once I saw that the food truck was La Catrina on Wheels, I immediately pulled a U-turn to park. My cravings changed quickly from pizza and wine to tacos and beer. La Catrina on Wheels is a taco truck that has…

You haven’t blogged about PGH Taco Truck yet?

You haven’t blogged about PGH Taco Truck yet?

Yes. That was the question everyone was asking as I sat in the Leaning Cask Brewery with my pen, notebook, and a basket of tacos from PGH Taco Truck. Earlier in the day, I was over at Steve’s house in Springdale and Steve said “Oh, we missed PGH Taco Truck at Inner Groove yesterday.” I sadly looked to the floor. The first time I had tacos from PGH Taco Truck was at the Pittsburgh Taco festival two years ago and…

West Coast Taco Tour 2019 Continued…

West Coast Taco Tour 2019 Continued…

After spending time in Northern California and South Tahoe with my college friends, I moved onto the second half of my vacation in Southern California. I took a flight from Reno to Los Angeles and then a shuttle an hour and a half up the coast from LA to Ventura. Here, I spent six wonderful days with my Ultimate Frisbee friend Holly. Holly took me in under her wing (and her new condo), and graciously showed me around the local…

First Tacos of the New Year at La Poblanita.

First Tacos of the New Year at La Poblanita.

Not even two full days into the new year I had my first 2019 taco. I picked a place off my PGH taco list that was recommended to me by several friends for its authenticity and overall high quality of tacos. I had this place marked in my notes for months and I couldn’t think of a better time to try them than at the start of the new year. I took my friend Dan, who was also off of…

Denver Part 1: Farming, Hiking, and Tacos.

Denver Part 1: Farming, Hiking, and Tacos.

For my last vacation week in 2018, I chose to take off the week of Thanksgiving.  For the longest time, I had no idea where I wanted to go or how I wanted to spend the week off.  It was not until the beginning of fall when I found my answer.  One of my favorite travel buddies, Carolyn, was planning on moving mid-September.  Carolyn and her husband, Tyler, always wanted to get out of Pittsburgh.  When Tyler’s work contract ended…

The Pittsburgh Taco Festival Strikes Back!

The Pittsburgh Taco Festival Strikes Back!

I was able to spend the start of my 10 day vacation in Pittsburgh without work on my mind. I knew I would soon be on a backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon, but first I needed a Tacofest.  Instead of worrying about compounding medications,  monitoring IV drips, or stocking the satellite pharmacy, I started thinking about how many tacos I was going to have at the second annual Pittsburgh Taco Festival.  To kick off my vacation, I invited one…

Question: Where can you find tacos, a beach, and Ultimate Frisbee all in one place?

Question: Where can you find tacos, a beach, and Ultimate Frisbee all in one place?

Answer:  Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. This Spring, I took a leap of faith and joined a Pittsburgh’s club level Ultimate Frisbee team called I-79.  I was recruited by my casual Ultimate Frisbee friends to play on this club team.  At first I did not know how I would fit another night of frisbee into my very hectic work-life schedule, but I decided that improving my game and traveling to new places for frisbee tournaments with friends along my side would be…
