Giant Effing Tacos at Cafe Nikos

Giant Effing Tacos at Cafe Nikos

On a surprisingly warm Taco Tuesday night in the Burgh, I made my way to Cafe Nikos dressed in a Pens t-shirt and a little black sweater.  I had Nikos on my PGH taco list for quite sometime after having read their 2 tacos for $3 weekly special listed on the banner outside the bar months ago.  I recruited a fellow Mount Washington resident and friend, Jason, for a taco filled night at Nikos located at 212 Shiloh St up…

Steel City’s Steel Cactus for National Taco Day

Steel City’s Steel Cactus for National Taco Day

This year, heavy rain attempted to take over some of my favorite taco centered events like the Pittsburgh Taco Festival, Cinco de Mayo, and National Taco Day.  It has not failed to make an appearance at each one of these occasions.  On Thursday October 4th, for National Taco Day, it rained like crazy.   Heavy downpours and floods led to many road closures in the South Hills.  As a result, my Frisbee game was cancelled.   A few of my league friends…

Pacific Northwest Battle #2: Neon Taco vs. Tacos Chukis

Pacific Northwest Battle #2: Neon Taco vs. Tacos Chukis

After Alexis, Hillary, and I traveled through Portland and Mount Rainier in our green Subaru Forester rental car (we looked like we were in an ongoing Subaru commercial while cruising along the lush mountains and amazing overlooks), we made it to Seattle for Labor Day weekend.  After a late night of exploring a speakeasy, an arcade bar in Belltown, and a random house party south of the city, we were off to a late start Saturday morning.  However, like any…

Pacific Northwest Battle #1: Uno Mas or Por Qué No?

Pacific Northwest Battle #1: Uno Mas or Por Qué No?

At the end of August, I took an extensive trip to the Pacific Northwest.  The 11 day vacation included a long weekend in Napa Valley for a friend’s bachelorette party with my college crew followed directly with a trip to Portland and Seattle with my grade school buddies.  Since I knew I would not have many opportunities for tacos in Napa, I saved all my taco explorations for Portland and Seattle with my grade school friends.  How lucky were they?!…

Celebrating Pittsburgh’s Restaurant Week with tacos from Coughlin’s Law Kitchen and Ale House

Celebrating Pittsburgh’s Restaurant Week with tacos from Coughlin’s Law Kitchen and Ale House

After back to back weekends of Ultimate Frisbee Tournaments, I finally had a weekend free for Pittsburgh tacos.  Lucky for me, the weekend I had open happened to be a part of Pittsburgh’s Restaurant Week.  In the past, I would try to make an effort to make it to a few of the restaurants partaking in the event to expand my Pittsburgh foodie bubble.  However, the hardest part for me is remembering which week the event falls.  This time, my aunt…

It’s Taco Tiiiiiiiiime in the Jersey Shore.

It’s Taco Tiiiiiiiiime in the Jersey Shore.

At the end of July, I attended my first Wildwood Ultimate Frisbee Tournament in Wildwood, New Jersey.  With over 400 teams and 5,000 players, it was the biggest frisbee tournament I ever attended. My team may not have done so great, but at least we had awesome jerseys!   Our team consisted of players from the Ultimate Frisbee Casual league in South Park, Pa.  We were the Wedge Salads. The name originated from the South Park Clubhouse menu item called the…

Vacation tacos at Redfin Blues.

Vacation tacos at Redfin Blues.

As you may know by now, I like to ride my bicycle on the random days off I get during the week.  I use this time to meet up with friends for lunch downtown, hit the gym, work on my blog, and sometimes grab a drink before returning home.  One place in particular I like to venture for a post lunch beverage is Redfin Blues located right in Washington’s Landing Marina at 100 Waterfront Drive.  My favorite time to come for…

Finding tacos in Arizona’s most beautiful places…the Grand Canyon and Sedona.

Finding tacos in Arizona’s most beautiful places…the Grand Canyon and Sedona.

Havasupai Indian Reservation  After 5 months of preparation, I was both excited and nervous to take a backpacking trip out west to the Havasupai Reservation in the Grand Canyon. Preparation for my backpacking adventure included walking up the Cathedral of Learning steps in Oakland with 20lbs on my back and watching YouTube videos on loading backpacks.  I also set up my tents several times in my living room as well as in the Laurel Highlands.  Additionally, researching mandatory camping gear…

The Pittsburgh Taco Festival Strikes Back!

The Pittsburgh Taco Festival Strikes Back!

I was able to spend the start of my 10 day vacation in Pittsburgh without work on my mind. I knew I would soon be on a backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon, but first I needed a Tacofest.  Instead of worrying about compounding medications,  monitoring IV drips, or stocking the satellite pharmacy, I started thinking about how many tacos I was going to have at the second annual Pittsburgh Taco Festival.  To kick off my vacation, I invited one…

Question: Where can you find tacos, a beach, and Ultimate Frisbee all in one place?

Question: Where can you find tacos, a beach, and Ultimate Frisbee all in one place?

Answer:  Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. This Spring, I took a leap of faith and joined a Pittsburgh’s club level Ultimate Frisbee team called I-79.  I was recruited by my casual Ultimate Frisbee friends to play on this club team.  At first I did not know how I would fit another night of frisbee into my very hectic work-life schedule, but I decided that improving my game and traveling to new places for frisbee tournaments with friends along my side would be…
